Some dogs, you never forget. For us, one of those dogs is little Roberto—better known as Ro. He’s a seven-year-old Chihuahua-rat terrier mix with a big personality, a gentle spirit, and a past that makes his story even more powerful.
Rescued from tough beginnings, Ro found a loving home where he’s cherished and deeply bonded with his family. So when his parents finally set off on their long-awaited honeymoon to Italy, they needed to be sure their little guy was in the best hands. That’s where we came in.
For 12 days, our Woofie’s® of Frisco-McKinney sitter cared for Ro with the same devotion his family gives him every day. And we’re honored they trusted us to do it.
What Ro’s Routine Looked Like
Ro’s care plan included four visits a day totaling about three hours of attention daily. We split this into two 60-minute visits and two 30-minute check-ins. This gave our sitter plenty of time to make sure Ro had time to stretch his legs, get in some play, enjoy meals and snacks, and patrol his backyard like the proud little guard dog he is.
Ro and his sitter took walks through the neighborhood, played indoors and out, and made plenty of time for the important stuff, which of course included belly rubs, cuddles, and chill time on the couch.
Letting someone watch your pet for 12 days is a profound act of trust. So in our time spent with Ro, we knew that the job wasn’t just about physical activity or bathroom breaks. It was also about reassurance.
This is why after every visit, our sitter sent detailed journal updates, complete with notes on Ro’s mood, eating, potty breaks, and any sweet or silly moments that made us smile. That way, his family never had to wonder how he was doing.
Long Distance Love
Even across the ocean, Ro’s people never missed a chance to say hello. As they cherished the time in Italy, they found the time to send him little video messages so he could hear their voices and feel their love. It was heartwarming to see just how much this little dog means to his family—and how much they mean to him.
Ro watched those videos intently every time, his tail wagging and ears perked. He knew his people hadn’t forgotten him, and he had well-placed faith that they’d be back soon.
Why Stories Like Ro’s Matter
In some ways, pet sitting can be thought of as dutifully following a list of responsibilities. And as important as that is, the trust element can’t be forgotten. Ro had a difficult start in life, but the events since have put him in the care of people who care deeply about his wellbeing. That includes his family, his sitter, and our entire team.
