Oh. My. Dog. National Dog Day has come and gone!
Whether you have a furry companion of your own, a special family pet, or a fur baby who's crossed the rainbow bridge, we've all been touched by the unconditional love of dogs in one way or another.
At Woofie's, dogs are a huge part of why we do what we do. They deserve nothing but the best care, and that's exactly what we strive to provide. That, plus lots and lots of snuggles.
There were countless reasons to celebrate dogs, so here are a few ways pet parents may have shown them some extra love.
Spending Quality Time Together
- Taking a walk, hike, or a little trip in the car. Exploring a new trail or a favorite park together, or letting a pup hop in the backseat for a pup cup from a favorite coffee shop.
- Playing with toys or puzzles. Surprising a pup with something new. Engaging their mind and body with interactive games and physical movement.
- Having a photoshoot. Capturing fun or heartwarming photos of a dog and sharing them on social media or with friends and family.
Supporting Dog Causes
- Donating to a local shelter. Many shelters rely on donations for food, medical care, and supplies.
- Volunteering. Spending time at a shelter playing with dogs, walking them, or helping clean kennels.
- Adopting, not shopping. For anyone who'd been considering adding a furry friend to the family, it was the perfect day to visit a shelter. Some great ones around the Phoenix metro include Arizona Humane Society, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control, Arizona Animal Welfare League, HALO Animal Rescue, and Almost There Rescue.
- Fostering a dog. For those not ready to adopt, fostering can give a dog in need a temporary home.
Pampering the Pup
- Booking a grooming session. A bath, a brushed coat, a nail trim, and plenty of compliments on how beautiful (or handsome) they look.
- Making homemade treats. Baking dog-friendly snacks like peanut butter biscuits or pumpkin pupcakes.
- Giving affection, affection, affection. Puppy cuddles and kisses can make any day better.
There's no adequate way to thank dogs for all of the wonderful things they give us, but we sure can try. However you celebrated, we hope it was full of tail wags and treats. And if National Dog Day slipped by unnoticed this year, no worries; every day is a good day to spoil your pup a little extra.
