At Woofie's, we believe every pet deserves compassionate care, no matter their family's circumstances. That's why on Saturday, August 15, 2026, our team from Woofie's of SE Portland Clackamas was honored to volunteer alongside The Street Dog Coalition at one of their pop-up clinics in Portland, Oregon.
A Day of Free Nail Trims and Big Hearts
The Street Dog Coalition has been providing compassionate care to pets and their people since 2015, offering free medical care and related services to pets of people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness across the country via pop-up street clinics. Their teams bring together volunteer veterinarians, vet techs, vet assistants, social workers, human healthcare professionals, human-animal bond advocates, and students of One Health studies, all working side by side under one simple belief: unconditional love and care shouldn't depend on someone's housing situation.
The cornerstones of their work are unbridled collaboration, compassionate activism, trust, and an unyielding belief in the transformative power of unconditional love, values that were on full display throughout the day.
For this event, our team offered free nail trims to pets in need, a small gesture that makes a big difference in the comfort and health of dogs and cats whose people are navigating incredibly difficult circumstances. Every trim was a reminder that these pets, so often a source of unwavering companionship and love for their people, deserve the same gentle care as any other four-legged family member.
Meeting the Team Behind the Mission
We had the privilege of working directly with Portland Team Lead Nichole Sykes, whose dedication to the mission was evident throughout the day. We also had the chance to meet Mariah Kimball, DVM, another Team Lead with The Street Dog Coalition. Both of these women exemplify what it means to give back to the community, showing up with compassion, expertise, and heart for pets and people who need it most.
Why This Work Matters
The bond between people and their pets doesn't disappear in hard times, in many cases, it becomes even more important. Pets provide comfort, purpose, and unconditional companionship, especially for those experiencing homelessness. Organizations like The Street Dog Coalition ensure that bond can be preserved and protected, one pop-up clinic at a time. Their work is only possible thanks to the generosity of their volunteers, community partners, donors, and sponsors, and we were proud to add our name to that list for the day.
At Woofie's of SE Portland Clackamas, we're proud to lend our hands (and our nail trimmers) to a cause that cares for lives on both ends of the leash.
