Why Are More Circle C Families Hiring Professional Dog Walkers During the Workday?
Blame the commute. It’s a long one from Circle C Ranch to Austin proper or up to the Domain or medical district. By the time you account for traffic on 290, you’re gone for ten hours minimum. Your partner’s schedule may very well be the same and, if you have kids, they’re likely at school.
Even the most “low maintenance” dog needs attention during the day. Being alone since 7:30 AM is a tough ask for even a dog like that, though. So they’re left wondering during the work day: what if I just take a little…nibble out of the couch cushions?
For a lot of Circle C families, mid-day dog walking is part of what makes their routine work. Because, honestly, when you’re fully employed and you’ve got places to go, it can be very hard to let your dog out during the day.
What Happens When Dogs Go Too Long Without a Walk
Most adult dogs can hold it for ten hours. That doesn’t mean they want to, though. It’s uncomfortable and that kind of discomfort tends to show up in one way or another.
Dogs also have energy, and there are some breeds and even some dogs in particular that just cannot stomach the idea of sitting around all day doing nothing much. A young lab or Australian shepherd who spent an entire day in a quiet house has been stockpiling energy. That energy then needs to come out some way, you just might not like how. It could be barking or digging, chewing or pacing, or even just a really frantic greeting at the door that tips over from “oh, he’s so excited, it’s so cute” to “this is too much, this is so, so much.”
A little fresh air and some new smells around mid-day can get their energy levels back in check. (And your couch cushions sigh in relief.)
It's Not Just About Exercise
Regular walks burn energy, to be sure. But that’s not the only benefit. There’s also mental stimulation and sensory experience. Dogs feel better when they encounter new scents, pass other dogs, hear birdsong, and literally “touch grass.” For dogs who are home alone all day, those precious 30 or 45 minutes are often the most engaging activity of the day.
For anxious dogs, the consistency matters as much as the activity. A walker who shows up at the same time every day becomes part of the routine. The dog starts to anticipate it, which gives the afternoon structure instead of leaving it as one long, empty stretch of waiting.
For puppies or young dogs who are still learning, a mid-day walk reinforces bathroom habits, leash manners, and socialization when they’re in a critical development window. Dogs are retrainable at any age, but it’s never easier than when they’re puppies.
Why Circle C in Particular
Circle C is a community of families who care about their homes, their yards, and their pets. But the neighborhood's distance from central Austin means commutes are real and workdays are long.
Professional walkers help when schedules are otherwise too tight. Your dog can still enjoy exercise, a bathroom break, and get social interaction while you’re at work. You can expect updates after each visit so you know it happened and how it went. And you come home to a calmer dog and an intact house.
